Deeside Leisure Centre – Wednesday 28th May
In a high-scoring local derby that delivered on all its promise, the Chester Road Reapers overcame the Cheshire Pistons in an intense 10–6 battle at Deeside Leisure Centre.
From the first puck drop, both teams came out flying, but it was the Reapers who struck first through Josh Fink at 11:37, setting the tone for what would become a four-goal night for the dynamic forward.
Rhys Stout doubled the lead with a powerplay goal at 14:34, showcasing the Reapers’ ability to capitalise with the man advantage. Into the second, the Reapers continued to build momentum – Fink added his second at 25:37, assisted by Rich Banks, before completing his hat-trick just three minutes later at 28:32.
The Pistons fought back with determination, getting themselves on the board and applying pressure, but the Reapers refused to let the tide turn. Captain Ste Roberts got in on the scoring at 37:09, assisted by Ellis Flannagan, before Fink bagged his fourth of the night at 39:40, pushing the Reapers to a 6-goal total heading into the third.
The third period continued at a breakneck pace, with Flannagan scoring at 40:34 after a smart setup from Andy Gibson. Rich Banks added another at 43:01, assisted by Fink, and George Kelly iced the game with a quick-fire brace at 45:52 and late in the third, with the final goal coming via an assist from Elliott Hale 52:14.
Despite the offensive fireworks, the Reapers did pick up two minor penalties: Elliott Hale received 2 minutes for tripping at 31:35, while Ste Shelley was called for roughing at 50:05.
The Pistons fought hard and capitalised on Reapers’ occasional defensive lapses to notch six goals of their own, but in the end, the Reapers’ firepower proved too much.
