REAPERS DEVELOPMENT 8 – 2 BRADFORD ICE WOLVES DEVELOPMENT
A night of opportunity, growth, and promising talent on display
Last night’s development fixture between Reapers and Bradford Ice Wolves was everything grassroots hockey should be. High tempo, even-strength competition, players stepping into unfamiliar roles, and a shared focus on development over ego.
From puck drop, both sides set the tone for an honest, competitive matchup. The first period belonged to the Reapers, who struck three times in quick succession. Gage Griffiths opened the scoring at 13:46, finishing from an Ellis Flanagan assist. Rhys Williams followed just under a minute later with an unassisted effort, and Matt Ravenscroft added a third at 19:33 to give the Reapers a 3–0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second period continued at pace. Ravenscroft grabbed his second of the night at 30:35, showing composure in front of goal. Bradford responded at 35:16 through E. Cooper, who capitalised unassisted to put the Ice Wolves on the board. The Reapers answered swiftly, with Nader Guesmi converting at 36:02 from a Daniel Sharkey assist, extending the advantage to 5–1 going into the final frame.
The third period remained competitive despite the scoreline. Guesmi added his second at 47:45 before Rhys Williams struck again at 49:30, assisted by Ravenscroft. Bradford continued to battle and were rewarded at 49:06 when T. Jones finished from assists by R. Carlisle and A. Frear. Lucas Jones rounded off the scoring for the Reapers at 55:31 with an unassisted goal to seal the 8–2 victory.
While the scoreboard reflected a strong offensive performance from the Reapers, the true story of the night was development.
In a move that captured the spirit of the fixture, both Dave Meadows and Gage Griffiths stepped out of the crease to experience playing out of goal. Supporting that opportunity, Ice Wolves netminder Leon Dodd joined the Reapers on loan for the evening, demonstrating the collaboration and sportsmanship that define this level of hockey.
Standout performances came from Matt Ravenscroft, named Player of the Match after his two-goal display and assist, and Nader Guesmi, selected as Coach’s Player of the Match for his leadership and influence across the ice.
For both teams, this was a valuable evening of growth. Young and emerging players gained crucial ice time, confidence was built, and new roles were explored. The result matters, but the development and experience gained matter more.
With performances like this, the future looks promising for both the Reapers and the Ice Wolves.
