The Chester Road Reapers delivered a commanding performance at Bradford Ice Arena last night, defeating the Bradford Ice Wolves 7-0 in a clinical display of ice hockey prowess. From the opening faceoff, the Reapers demonstrated their superiority, capitalising on opportunities and maintaining a solid defensive structure to secure a shutout for goaltender Dave Meadows.
First Period Action
The scoring began at 13:33 on the powerplay, with Gregor Balmer finding the back of the net, assisted by Neil Paton. Shortly after, Karl Jones netted the second goal at 15:11, converting at even strength with an assist from Richard Banks.
Second Period Domination
The Reapers maintained their momentum into the second period. Karl Jones struck again at 28:25 with another even-strength goal, assisted by Banks and Ste Shelley. Carl Jones took an unassisted goal later in the period at 37:51, showcasing his ability to capitalise on opportunities single-handedly. Richard Banks added a fifth goal at 38:56, assisted by Steven Roberts and Balmer.
The second period also saw the Reapers pick up their only penalty of the game when Ste Shelley was called for interference at 22:41. Despite being a player down briefly, the Reapers’ penalty-killing unit ensured the Ice Wolves couldn’t capitalise.
Final Period Highlights
The Reapers’ offensive dominance continued in the third period. Gregor Balmer scored his second goal of the night at 44:21, with an assist from Nader Guesmi. Just seconds later, at 44:32, Ste Shelley buried another goal, assisted by Kieran O’Loan.
The game wasn’t without its challenges. In the final minute of play, Shelley took a puck to the face and had to sit out the remainder of the game. Despite this, the team remained resolute, closing out the game with a clean sheet.
Outstanding Performances
Karl Jones was a standout, contributing two goals and showcasing exceptional effort throughout. Scarlet Strefford, making her first appearance for the Reapers, delivered an impressive defensive performance, helping shut down any offensive attempts by the Ice Wolves. Goaltender Dave Meadows was instrumental, turning away every shot he faced to secure a well-earned shutout.
This comprehensive victory demonstrates the Reapers’ potential as they continue their 2024/25 campaign. The team will undoubtedly look to carry this momentum into their next matchup.
The Reapers’ next game promises to be another exciting test, and fans can look forward to more thrilling hockey from this dominant squad.
